Liberal Democrat Health spokesperson Ross Finnie MSP has demanded the Scottish Government drop its plans to raise the purchase age for alcohol in off-sales premises.
Mr Finnie's call comes the day that the Coalition Against Raising the Drinking Age in Scotland (CARDAS) presents a petition to MSPs in the Scottish Parliament.
Commenting, Mr Finnie said:
"Liberal Democrats have consistently opposed this preposterous plan.
"There is general consensus that the Government must take action to tackle alcohol abuse, but demonising a whole generation of young people is not the answer. The SNP must drop this proposal."
