Liberal Democrat Rural Affairs spokesperson Liam McArthur MSP has welcomed the progress made at today's meetings in Brussels for the Scottish agricultural industry.
Decisions announced today ensure freedom to hold on to the Scottish Beef Calf Scheme (SBCS), a subsidy offered to specialist producers, as well as a reduction in proposed subsidy cuts from 45 per cent to 4 per cent.
Commenting, Mr McArthur said:
"This is good news for the Scottish Beef Calf Scheme. Liberal Democrats have long called for common sense to prevail on this issue.
"I also welcome the news on modulation, however the pot of funds available to Scottish farmers, crofters and rural businesses remains relatively low.
"Richard Lochhead, having responded to pressure to review the Scottish Rural Development Programme (SRDP), needs to crack on and sort out the mess this SNP Government have created."
