Margaret Smith MSP, Liberal Democrat Education spokesperson, has attacked the SNP over broken promises on teacher numbers. With teacher numbers now at their lowest levels for three years, the SNP have shown they are not up to the job.
Commenting Mrs Smith said:
"We know that 25,000 teachers will leave the profession in the next four years. This represents a major challenge to the future of Scottish education.
"The evidence so far suggests that the SNP are not up to the challenge.
"Pupils and parents are now suffering cuts in the classroom caused by SNP broken promises. By allowing education budgets to shrink and slashing teacher numbers, the SNP have proved they are not up to the job."
