Liberal Democrat Transport spokesperson Alison McInnes MSP has demanded the Scottish Government make a fresh start for transport in 2009.
In December, the Transport Minister confirmed fears that many transport projects will be sidelined by stating that the new Forth crossing will dominate work on the road network until 2016.
Mrs McInnes wants the Scottish Government to admit that many of their transport promises made during the 2007 election campaign now hang in the balance and come up with a priority list, so communities can see if their local schemes are likely to be implemented.
Commenting Mrs McInnes said:
"2009 needs to be the year that the SNP keeps their transport promises to the people of Scotland.
"The STPR was hailed as the solution to Scotland's transport needs but in reality the Scottish Government delivered nothing more than a wish list that promises much but delivers little.
"Communities across Scotland should not have to wait for the headline grabbing projects to be completed before local transport links are addressed.
"Liberal Democrats want the Scottish Government to prioritise the projects announced in the STPR so that local communities do not lose out.
"Making grand promises is one thing, but it is time the Scottish Government set out how they plan to keep those promises."
