Liam McArthur MSP, Liberal Democrat Environment spokesperson, has poured scorn on the Scottish Government's green jobs target after he revealed that there is no clear definition of a green job, and no centrally held figures on progress towards the target.
In a series of questions to the Cabinet Secretary, Mr McArthur was told that the Scottish Government did not know the number of people currently employed in 'green jobs'.
Commenting Mr McArthur said:
Liam McArthur MSP"Last week at First Minister's Questions, I asked how targets in the green jobs strategy would be measured. The First Minister told me, in a characteristically cavalier manner, that the Scottish Government would have no problem counting the jobs. Now we learn that they have not even bothered to count how many green jobs they think there are at present. Do they have no idea what a green job is?
"It is astonishing that the Scottish Government is congratulating itself on having a green jobs target without a clear and concise definition or baseline.
"Further evidence, I fear, that the Scottish Government enjoys grabbing the headlines more than the hard graft needed to hit the target."
