Liberal Democrat Health spokesperson Ross Finnie MSP has called on the Health Secretary to clarify what cooperation the UK Department of Health will offer to the Public Inquiry into contaminated blood products.
Lord Archer of Sandwell's inquiry into contaminated blood in England and Wales, published today, reported that the Department of Health declined to provide witnesses to give evidence in public.
Ross Finnie MSPCommenting, Mr Finnie said:
"Victims' families are understandably concerned about the UK Department of Health's cooperation with the Scottish Public Inquiry.
"The Department of Health did not provide public witnesses to Lord Archer's inquiry in England and Wales and continues to maintain its view that such an inquiry is unnecessary. This raises questions about how fully they will cooperate with a Scottish inquiry.
"The Health Secretary blithely dismissed these concerns this morning. I'd like to know what assurances the Health Secretary has received from the UK Government about the extent of its cooperation.
"Only full and public engagement will satisfy the needs of this inquiry."
