Liberal Democrat Education spokesperson Margaret Smith MSP will lead an attack on the SNP for breaking promises to parents and pupils.
The Liberal Democrats will urge the Scottish Government to learn from the mistakes of the first half of its term of office and take action to restore teacher numbers.
Commenting ahead of the debate, Mrs Smith said:
"The SNP are getting the champagne ready for their second anniversary in office. But there is a complete lack of fizz in education. Key promises to parents and pupils have been broken.
"The SNP's failures on teachers and teaching are potentially the most damaging of all their broken promises to the long-term interests of this country.
"Here we are, two years on. The Education Secretary has failed to cut class sizes and on her watch there's been a 1,000 drop in the number of teachers. She has failed to offer support to newly qualified teachers or those who want to get into the profession.
"This needs to change. The Education Secretary must commit to a workforce plan that will repair the damage caused by her dismal record over two years. The verdict is "must do better". Parliament can vote to make it better."
