The 2009 Meadows Festival is set to go ahead on Saturday 6 and Sunday 7 June. The City of Edinburgh Council has now granted permission for south Edinburgh's premier community festival to be held on the Meadows.

As in previous years the festival will include music on two stages, nearly 100 stalls, a primary school football competition, an art tent from the Edinburgh College of Art and Taylor's famous funfair.

The Festival will run from 10am to 5pm on Saturday 6 and 11am to 5pm on Sunday 7 June in the West Meadows between Coronation Walk and Middle Meadow Walk.

The Meadows Festival Association has been busy making preparations for the event and has now put out an appeal for volunteers to help over the weekend of the Festival.

"We have a fantastic line up" said Meadows Festival Association Convenor Fred Mackintosh "Interest from all across the community has been fantastic, but we now need people to come forward to volunteer to act as stewards, litter-pickers and to help with setting up on Friday 5 June. The first Meadows Festival was held in 1974 and apart from a brief gap between 2005 to 2008 has been held every year since then for the benefit of the community south of the Old Town of Edinburgh.
