Commenting on reports that John Burt Brown, an offender at Castle Huntly serving a life sentence for murder has absconded, Liberal Democrat Justice spokesperson Robert Brown MSP said:
"A day after the Justice Secretary and the First Minister himself assured Scotland that they had a system in place to stop dangerous offenders escaping into our communities, another inmate has walked out Castle Huntly.
"This is making a mockery of the open prison estate. Clearly there are ongoing issues with the process of risk assessment.
"The Justice Secretary needs to get a grip of what's going on at Castle Huntly if he's to rescue public faith in our prison system."
