West of Scotland Liberal Democrat MSP Ross Finnie has submitted a Parliamentary Motion calling on Hewlett Packard to reconsider its decision to relocate 843 employees from its Erskine Site to the Czech Republic during 2010.
Yesterday Hewlett Packard announced plans to relocate manufacturing of Enterprise Storage and Servers (ESS) and software products to a partner company in the Czech Republic during 2010, 843 individuals will be affected by this announcement 70 permanent HP staff and 773 employees of our manufacturing partner Manpower. Hewlett Packard will now enter into a period of consultation with local employee representatives to consider impacted jobs and appropriate timelines.
Commenting Mr Finnie said:
"I urge all my fellow MSP's to support my motion and join in pressuring Hewlett Packard into reconsidering its plans. The fight to save 843 local jobs must be a cross party issue.
"Hewlett Packard cannot be allowed to exploit employees in Scotland in this disgraceful way."

S3M-04270 Ross Finnie (West of Scotland) (Scottish Liberal Democrats): Hewlett Packard to Reconsider Erskine Relocations- That the Parliament expresses grave concern over the decision by Hewlett Packard to relocate 843 employees from its Erskine site to the Czech Republic during 2010; notes that Hewlett Packard has already cut 150 jobs in February 2009, meaning that current relocations raise possible job losses on the site to nearly 1,000, and calls on Hewlett Packard to reconsider this short-term decision made in the midst of economic recession and retain its core facility and employees at Erskine.
