Commenting on the news that planning permission has been granted for the UK's largest biogas facility in South Lanarkshire, Liberal Democrat Environment spokesperson Jim Hume MSP said:
"This is an important milestone on the road to making Scotland the renewables powerhouse of Europe.
"In the longer term I want to see all homes heated from renewable sources, but the current reality is that most people still need to burn gas to heat their homes.
"This facility is an anaerobic digestion station which means that it will be using degradable waste products that would otherwise have been used for landfill.
"It is a win-win situation for the local economy and community as well as the wider Scottish environment."
