Commenting on free personal and nursing care statistics published by the Scottish Government today, Liberal Democrat Health spokesman Ross Finnie said:
"The Liberal Democrat/Labour administration introduced free care in 2002. The bare financial statistics released today mask the huge improvements in personal care received by older and vulnerable people thanks to this landmark social policy.
"There are now 36% more old and vulnerable people receiving free personal care in their own home than five years ago. They and their families no longer have to worry about receiving the care they need.
"We all have a duty of care to the elderly. Free personal care is a cornerstone of this country's commitment to those in need."
