Lib Dems consider legal action to secure leaders' TV debates

Scotland's voters need to hear the candidates to be Prime Minister of the UK says Scottish Liberal Democrat Leader Tavish Scott.

Nick Clegg, Gordon Brown and David Cameron must be judged by Scottish voters in the forthcoming General Election so the Liberal Democrats are considering legal action to ensure the Leaders' TV debates are broadcast in Scotland.

Commenting, Mr Scott said:

"Scotland will decide the UK's next Prime Minister along with the rest of the UK. Nick Clegg, Gordon Brown and David Cameron are candidates. Alex Salmond is not. He's not even standing for Westminster.

"Salmond's position is anti-democratic and supremely arrogant. He should go home, put on the cooker and prepare the turkey because that would more useful than his pathetic ranting about an election he's not even contesting.

"Scotland should hear from the UK Leaders on Scottish issues, on the future of Britain and on the world affairs. We will take whatever action is necessary to ensure these debates are broadcast across Scotland. We look forward to the BBC, ITV and SKY telling the SNP to get lost."
