Commenting ahead of the SNP Government's belated statement to Parliament on the proposed Beauly-Denny power line, Liberal Democrat Energy spokesperson Liam McArthur MSP said:
"Ministers have sat on this decision for almost a year. The uncertainty and confusion this has created has been both unhelpful and unnecessary.
"Back in October, Liberal Democrats called for an urgent statement to the Scottish Parliament given the strategic national importance of this proposed development to realising Scotland's renewables potential.
"At the time, despite indications that decisions had been made, Ministers ducked the opportunity to make clear their intentions. Instead we were promised an announcement to Parliament by the end of the year.
"This commitment, like so many others from Alex Salmond's government, was dumped in the run up to Christmas.
"It is long past time now for Mr Salmond and his Ministers to come clean on the Beauly to Denny upgrade. It is also obvious to everyone that this sort of process, which satisfied no-one, must not be allowed to happen again."
