The Royal Bank of Scotland is to cut 2,600 jobs in the UK in the coming year. Liberal Democrat Finance spokesman Jeremy Purvis says the Financial Sector Jobs Task Force must be involved in supporting those who will be affected.
Commenting, Jeremy Purvis said:
"This is devastating for RBS employees in Edinburgh and Glasgow who will now be in fear for their jobs.
"RBS is majority owned by the taxpayer and it is important that they return to making a profit so they can repay us for their failings.
"It will be important that the Financial Sector Jobs Task Force, that Liberal Democrats secured in last year's budget discussions, is fully involved in supporting affected individuals."
