Liberal Democrat Finance spokesperson Jeremy Purvis MSP has said that figures released today which show that 212,000 people in Scotland are unemployed, underline the need for the UK and Scottish Governments to work together to improve employment opportunities in Scotland.
Commenting he said:
"While it is encouraging that those claiming job seekers allowance fell by 1000 in May, it is an indicator of the horrendous times that we find ourselves in, that this figure is still so much higher than it was last year.
"With the unemployment figures still so high in Scotland, it again highlights that the UK and Scottish Governments must work together to improve employment opportunities in Scotland."
