Commenting on figures released today which reveal that only 12% of men who have suffered domestic abuse in the last year have made police aware of the most recent or only incident, Liberal Democrat Justice spokesperson Robert Brown MSP said:
"Domestic abuse is a serious crime with both female and male victims.
"This latest evidence suggests that men are still more unwilling to come forward and report domestic abuse incidents to the police.
"Progress has already made on this issue. We need to build on this. We must break down the existing barriers on reporting these damaging incidents to the police.
"We must get rid of the stigma that exists in Scotland surrounding domestic abuse.
